HABAGAT Outdoor Equipment will once again help spread the awareness of climate change as it holds the Habagat Night Ride this Saturday starting at the SM Seaside City Cebu.
The bike night ride is held in line with the worldwide awareness campaign of the Earth Hour Movement to promote a cleaner and sustainable environment.
Habagat has been hosting the annual night ride in Cebu City since 2009 as part of its commitment to help promote Earth Hour, which is a global event where millions of people switch off their lights for one hour to show they care about our planet. This year’s edition is on Saturday from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Around 3,000 participants from all walks of life are expected the join the Cebu leg. Bikers from 10 other cities will simultaneously join the event. These are Cagayan de Oro, Davao, Dumaguete, Manila, Ormoc, Tarlac, Palompon City, Leyte, Ozamis and Zamboanga.
“It’s a challenge for everyone to sustain or save our planet for one hour that’s why we encourage everyone whether you’re a big or a small company to join Earth Hour to lessen the carbon emission we make that harms this planet and causes climate change,” said Habagat Events coordinator Jake Ave during Wedndesday’s launching at the Elicon House Museum of Biking. He was joined by known bike lane advocate Jay Garganera and Mel Muaña of Habagat.
Ave admitted there were lapses in last year’s night ride, which is why they asked the Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) to help them man the busy highway for the bikers’ safety.
Registration is free and will be done on the day of the event starting at 6 p.m.
Meanwhile, Ave is asking participants to wear crash helmets during the ride. Special awards will be given to the best designed bike, youngest and oldest participant, biggest family of bikers and biggest delegation or group. There will also be raffle prizes for all the participants after the ride.
